The New England Contractor’s Hack: How To Get All-Season, Weather Proof Storage Fast, Never Worry About Theft Again, And Keep All Your Tools Organized. All Without Having To Build Another Garage. You Can Get Your Storage Solved By Tomorrow!

So when the materials for your jobsite shows up early, there’s no more rolling the dice on unexpected delivery, lost time, ruined materials left outside, delaying your project, or leave you facing an unhappy customer.

Avoid The Mistakes Many Contractors and Homeowners Make When Solving Their Storage Problems

  • Get a traditional storage unit at a facility across town?

    • And have to drive over every time you need a tool or forgot something?

  • Buy one of those Amish made Sheds?

    • Rodents will love to chew through and make nests in anything stored inside. Not to mention regular maintenance to make sure they don’t rot…

  • Fill up your garage?

    • Now where do you park your vehicles? Hopefully not outside!

    • You wife probably doesn’t want to see clutter throughout the garage.

The Solution?

Introducing Shipping Containers.

Shipping Containers were built to withstand the harsh conditions of overseas shipping. Using them for storage on the ground? No problem.

How long do they last? A New Shipping container from us gets a 30 Year warranty against leaks.

Worried about maintenance? Little to none.

Worried about security? With a construction almost entirely of steel, and a lockbox over your padlock, they are virtually impossible to break into.

Upfront investment? These pay for themselves in no time. Renting a storage unit? The saved rent along pays for the container in as soon as 2 years.

Best Practices When Purchasing Your First Shipping Container

Know what the different conditions are:

Common terms you’ll see:

  • New / One-Trip – Looks new, costs more, minimal dents, but lasts the longest!

  • WWT (Wind & Water Tight) – Used, structurally sound, most popular

  • Cargo-Worthy (CW) – Better quality than WWT, better door seals, less rust and cosmetic damage.

  • As-Is – Cheapest, no guarantees, typically a leak or more damage, but you are handy you can make it watertight

👉 For first-time buyers: WWT is usually the sweet spot.

Inspect (or demand proof) before you buy

If you can’t see it in person, ask for real photos or video—not stock images.

Check:

  • Doors: Do they open easily? Lock rods straight? Used are typically more difficult to open, try before you buy.

  • Gaskets: Broken or cracked seals, cause leaks sooner.

  • Roof: No soft spots or pinholes

  • Rust: Excessive rust will cause leaks sooner

  • Floor: Solid plywood, securely attached to joists, no soft spots

If a seller won’t provide this → walk away.

Understand delivery BEFORE you pay

Most first-time buyers get burned here.

Ask:

  • Is delivery included or separate?

  • Tilt-bed delivery or is unloading equipment required?

  • How much clearance is needed?

  • Is the ground soft or could the truck get stuck?

  • Is the driver experienced and do they have 4WD?

  • What happens if delivery fails?

💡 Tip: A cheap container with an expensive or damaging delivery isn’t cheap.

Think about moisture from day one

Containers sweat. That’s normal.

Best practices:

  • The more air vents the better. New one trip typically have more vents than used, and thus sweat less.

    • You can add more yourself, or ask for additional vents to be added (such as a solar roof top vent)

  • Use desiccants or moisture absorbers. (these are commonly used when shipping overseas)

  • Don’t store items directly on the floor or against the walls. You want airflow.

  • What you store inside can contribute to the moisture. If what you store inside has moisture or is wet, it will evaporate over time and condense.

  • Unless it is kept heated or dehumidified, its best practice to store items in boxes or totes or at least covered.

  • Crack doors periodically if possible

If storing delicate tools or inventory long-term, this is critical.

Watch for common red flags

🚩 Prices way below market
🚩 Sellers asking for wire transfer / crypto only
🚩 No physical address or yard
🚩 Refusing pickup or inspection
🚩 Copy-paste websites with fake reviews

Scams are everywhere in this industry. ESPECIALLY on Facebook Marketplace

Plan the site before it arrives

At minimum:

  • Gravel or crushed stone base (this way you can place the container directly on the ground and water will drain away)

  • Otherwise, pressure treated 6x6s

  • Select a spot where the ground is naturally drier.

  • Make sure there is 70’ minimum straight clear space to unload a 20’ or 120’ for a 40’ container

  • Clear overhead space where unloading

Buy from someone who actually moves containers

The best sellers:

  • Own or control delivery (no third party delivery)

  • Have a physical yard where you can examine inventory

  • Answer all questions openly and clearly

  • Don’t rush you
